2019 Pre-Teen Musical Theatre Intensive Registration

May 20 - May 31, 2019

Event Description

For students entering grades 4-8

Two Weeks: July 29 - August 10
Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM
The Music Man JR will be presented on Saturday, August 10 at 2 PM and 6 PM

A great fit for students looking for focused, intense theatre training, the pre-teen program introduces students entering grades 4 through 8 to the joy of performing in a show. Students work with a director, choreographer and music director over the course of two weeks to present a junior production of a Broadway show. Broadway Junior musicals are condensed, author-approved versions of classic musicals, custom-tailored to the needs of young people. The music is written in keys that are appropriate for developing voices. Students will attend daily classes where material from the show will be used to teach them skills in areas of music, drama and dance. All classes are taught by master teaching artists. Two performances of a 60-minute Broadway Junior show will be presented on The Hanover Theatre’s mainstage on Saturday, August 10. The 2019 production will be The Music Man JR

Please note, this is an intensive program which works at a fast pace and expects students to be flexible, adaptable, responsible, focused and capable of handling a high sensory environment.

About The Music Man JR:
There's trouble in River City when a fast-talking salesman gets his heart stolen by the town librarian in this adaptation of the Tony Award®-winning Broadway classic. The Music Man JR. features some of musical theatre’s most iconic songs and a story filled with wit, warmth and good old-fashioned romance.

Master showman Harold Hill is in town and he’s got “seventy-six trombones” in tow. Can upright, uptight Marian, the town librarian, resist his powerful allure? The story follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band he vows to organize. The catch? He doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. As Harold struggles to keep his scheme afloat, he also finds himself increasingly attached to the townspeople, who have all experienced a positive change since Harold came to town. Complicating matters even more, Harold is also falling head-over-heels for the beautiful Marian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall.
