SHOW TIMES:November 2010
11/10 (8:00 pm)

DESCRIPTION:Mitch Albom is a best-selling author, nationally-syndicated columnist, radio host, and network television commentator.

He is the author of 10 books, including the phenomenal bestsellers “The Five People You Meet in Heaven,” “Tuesdays With Morrie”, “For One More Day” and his newest novel, “Have A Little Faith.”

“Tuesdays with Morrie” spent four straight years atop the New York Times bestsellers list and is now the best selling memoir of all time, with nearly 11 million copies sold worldwide. It was recently released in paperback and, again, immediately jumped on the bestsellers list. Oprah Winfrey produced an ABC television movie based on “Tuesdays With Morrie” that aired in December 1999 and was the most-watched TV movie of that year. On November
19, 2002, “Tuesdays With Morrie” opened just off-Broadway, with Mitch as the coplaywright. It’s currently being performed in regional theatres throughout North America.

Mitch has won more than 100 writing awards from AP, UPI, Headliners Club, National Sports Writers and Broadcasters Associations, and others. For more than a decade, he has been
named the No. 1 sports columnist in the nation by the Sports Editors of America, the highest honor in his field. This same group has also awarded Mitch seven first place honors for feature writing.

Mitch hosts two popular radio programs that reach 38 States on flagship station WJR-AM in Detroit. “The Mitch Albom Show” airs 5-7 p.m. Eastern time Monday through Friday while “The Monday Sports Albom,” which runs 7-8 p.m. Eastern time on Mondays, is in its nineteenth year on the air.

Mitch is a panelist on ESPN’s “Sports Reporters,” seen every Sunday by a nationwide audience. He has appeared on several national television programs, including “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” NBC’s “Today Show,” ABC’s “Good Morning, America,” the CBS Early Show, “The Charlie Rose Show,” Larry King Live, and ABC’s “Nightline,” which featured Mitch as Ted Koppel’s final guest.

Mitch is an accomplished songwriter and lyricist who wrote the song “Cookin’ For Two,” which was nominated for a Cable Ace Award and was used in the movie “Christmas In Connecticut,” directed by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Mitch is a Philadelphia native who holds Master’s Degrees in journalism and business administration from Columbia University and who once played the piano as a warm-up act for comedian Gabe Kaplan.

Mitch and his wife, Janine, reside in suburban Detroit.

The UMASS Medical School Speakers Series features three acclaimed speakers - David Sedaris, Mitch Albom and Garrison Keillor; ticket buyers are eligible to receive a 10% discount when buying all three performances.
