Volunteer Positions at The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts

Objective: To provide quality service to patrons attending events and to assist in event preparation and conclusion.

Usher, Ticket Taker, Coat Check:
This volunteer will assist patrons of the theatre to their seats and prepare and distribute printed materials such as programs. This position requires a polite individual with solid customer service ability. Each person is to be treated with dignity and respect.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Attend meeting and training sessions as required.
  • Understand and implement policies and procedures.
  • Actively assist patrons in times of emergency.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to read event ticket at an 11-point font with the aid of a flashlight.
  • Arrive 1 hour prior to performance time and remain 45 minutes prior to the performance.
Commitment: Minimum of one year, two events per month (including weekend events).

Gardening/Plaza Maintenance:
This volunteer will assist the theatre in maintaining the grounds of the Federal Plaza located in front of the theatre between Southbridge and Main Street. Volunteers will help to remove trash from the grounds, mulch, weed flower beds, maintain current plants, and assist in new plantings.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Actively assist in maintenance of the plaza.
  • Be courteous of public in the plaza during maintenance times.
  • Arrive prepared with necessary tools.
  • Assist in general clean-up before leaving area.
  • Willingness to take on various tasks.
  • Willingness to work outdoors under varying temperatures.
Commitment: Minimum of one year, 2 hours per month

Greeting & Hospitality:
This volunteer will assist the theatre in creating an inviting atmosphere to all of our guests. Volunteer will be located at entry points for guests and offer assistance to patrons with questions or other needs.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Attend meeting and training sessions as required.
  • Understand and implement policies and procedures.
  • Actively assist patrons in times of emergency.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly.
  • Enjoy working with people.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all patrons.
Commitment: Minimum of one year, two events per month (including weekend events).

Administrative Work:
This volunteer will assist the theatre in administrative duties such as data-entry, filing, answering phones, and general organization of office space.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to be trained on theatre's ticketing system.
  • Pleasant phone voice.
Commitment: One year, two weeks per month, 6 hours per week.

Tour Guide:
This volunteer will assist the theatre in guiding groups through educational tours of the theatre, answering phones, and general organization of office space.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Attend meeting and training sessions as required.
  • Ability to memorize tour script.
  • Enjoy working with people.
  • Ability to maneuver throughout all areas of the theatre.
Commitment: One year, one weekend per month.

Box Office:
This volunteer will assist the box office staff in daily functions including, but not limited to maintaining the customer database, stuffing ticket envelopes, preparing will-call tickets, generating mass mailings, and preparing event programs.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Attend meeting and training sessions as required.
  • Pleasant phone voice.
  • Willingness to be trained on theatre's ticketing system.
Commitment: One year, two weeks per month, 6 hours per week.

Where in the WOO is Gingy?

Where in the WOO is Gingy?

Where in the WOO is Gingy? features Gingy, the lovable gingerbread character from the upcoming production of Shrek The Musical. Gingy will be visiting 30 WOO venues over the course of the next 30 days, starting Friday, January 20! Let us know where he is each day, and if you get it right, you'll be entered into the grand prize drawing including:

-4 tickets to Shrek The Musical on Saturday, February 25 at 2pm

Be an Instrumental Partner!

Help to bring the joy of music to Worcester Public School students by bringing any instrument that is no longer being played to either the WICN studios or The Hanover Theatre in downtown Worcester. All instruments are welcome, and they can be in any condition, because the David French Music Company in Westborough has generously agreed to repair them before they are donated to Worcester Public School students who cannot afford to buy or rent them.
