‘South Pacific’ at Hanover soars on great songs

The touring production of the Broadway revival of “South Pacific” swept one away in the nicest possible way Friday night as it opened a four-performance run before a house of just under 2,000 people at The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts.
There was a scintillating stretch in the first act when wave after wave of great songs with superb singing and staging just washed over the audience. The sequence of “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair,” “Some Enchanted Evening,” “A Wonderful Guy,” “Bali Ha’i,” and “Younger Than Springtime” is hard to beat and probably, in fact, has no equal in the history of great American musicals.
