Lowell group wants to return professional theater to Worcester

Merrimack Repertory Theatre of Lowell and a new group called Friends of Professional Theatre in Worcester announced Tuesday joint plans to return a professional, resident theater company to Worcester.
Worcester has been without a full-time theater company since Foothills Theatre closed in 2009. According to a press release issued yesterday, Merrimack Repertory Theatre would evolve into a two-city theater company serving both Lowell and Worcester. Productions in Worcester would be in a 240-seat black box theater created on the stage of The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts.
