Dance Teacher: Shen Yun Dancers 'are so buoyant'

February 9, 2010

By Heide B. Malhotra, EPOCH TIMES STAFF

Ms. Forbes, who teaches dance at a college, was in the audience at the popular Hanover Theater for the Performing Arts. With her was Ms. Patrick, a service representative, and in the words of her friend, "a good dancer as well."

She was looking forward to the Shen Yun Performing Arts show, which seeks to bring true traditional Chinese culture through dance, songs, and music to the Worcester people.

Ms. Forbes’s first words were that Shen Yun is a "fantastic show."

Ms. Patrick agreed: "Wonderful. Beautiful."

Ms. Forbes found what she is looking for in Shen Yun's dancers, given that she teaches dancing. "The technique, exceptional technique and the super extension that they have, the hyper-extension of the dancers is fantastic. They're so buoyant. It is phenomenal," she said.

Shen Yun is billed as the premier classical Chinese dance company in the world. Classical Chinese dance requires that the dancers master their form, which requires a great amount of training and discipline.

The dance pieces portray stories from Chinese history, which goes back 5000 years.

Ms. Patrick concluded, "Wonderful choreography, wonderful execution, and just beautifully done."

The costumes, admired by many audiences, were seen also as something that one remembers, “They are beautiful. Really, they're beautiful," said Ms. Patrick.

Costumes are an integral part of Shen Yun's performances. "Apparel has always been an essential part of China’s five-millennia-old, divinely-bestowed culture, and Shen Yun Performing Arts brings this heritage to life on stage," says Shen Yun's website.
