Education/Outreach

The Hanover Theatre is a center where all can relish the performing arts. The theatre is enhancing the city by providing a world-class facility for local, national, and international performing artists. In addition, The Hanover Theatre provides opportunities for community and educational enrichment through a variety of outreach programs.

Programs Include:

Community Fundraising Assistance
The Hanover Theatre will support the fundraising efforts of local schools and non-profit organizations by donating two tickets to a performance at the theatre. Schools and non-profits must submit a letter of request on the organization's letterhead to The Hanover Theatre. Letters must include the name and date of the fundraising event, address to which they would like the certificate mailed, and the organization's non-profit tax ID number. Donations are limited to one pair of tickets per year per organization. For more information, contact Brendan Donnellan, Box Office Associate at brendan@thehanovertheatre.org.

Discounted Group Tickets
For groups of 20 or more, The Hanover Theatre typically offers a discount of 10% or more off tickets for select shows. For more information, please contact Brian Burke, Assistant Box Office Manager, at brian@thehanovertheatre.org.

Education Outreach Committee
The Hanover Theatre Education Outreach Committee was formed to foster a relationship with students and educators in the community. This committee consists of members of the Worcester Public Schools and Worcester College Consortium as well as members of local non-profits and businesses looking to provide support for educational programs.

Internships
Hanover Theatre's Internship Program offers excellent opportunities for college and high school students. The theatre will offer a variety of internships in or related to the world of performing arts, including Customer Service, Development, Marketing & P.R., Operations, and Management. This professional work experience can help students fulfill requirements, as well as learn in a hands on environment. Postings for internships can be found on the College of Worcester Consortium website or applications can be requested through special arrangement.

Student Matinees
The Hanover Theatre has begun to offer student matinee performances on select shows. Occasionally, Study Guides are also available in order to help both students and educators to prepare for what they will be seeing on stage. These guides contain background material on the show, and include educational activities to enhance the classroom experience before entering the theatre. Please contact the box office for a current list of student matinee performances.

Student Rush
On select shows, our student rush discount allows students to purchase tickets at the box office on the night of the performance for select shows at up to 50% off. This program is geared towards college students, but is also available for high school students presenting a student ID. Please contact the box office for more information.

Unum Student Critic Program
The Student Critic Program at The Hanover Theatre is a pilot educational program that includes fourteen (14) high school students from the Worcester Public Schools (WPS). Two (2) students from seven (7) schools are taught the skills necessary for writing a critique of a Broadway performance during the Theatre's Broadway season. Students, selected by the individual schools, attend writing workshops taught by a professional theatre critic as well as five Broadway shows throughout the season. Following each workshop the students will be required to write a full-length review. Reviews will be evaluated after each performance and discussed at the next workshop. The intent of this pilot program is to begin to establish a solid foundation for greater collaboration between the WPS and The Hanover Theatre.

Help to bring the joy of music to Worcester Public School students by bringing any instrument that is no longer being played to either the WICN studios or The Hanover Theatre in downtown Worcester. All instruments are welcome, and they can be in any condition, because the David French Music Company in Westborough has generously agreed to repair them before they are donated to Worcester Public School students who cannot afford to buy or rent them. Call WICN at 508.752.0700 for more information.
